In other words Happy Chinese New Year 2012! Year of the Dragon (my brothers birth year).
Chinese New Year may be a time for friends, family and fun, but is also a time for foreboding as the festival is riddled with superstitions. The Chinese place much stock in the rites and rituals in Chinese New Year superstitions. Check out the top Chinese New Year superstition tips below and see how crazy we are!
1. Dirty Doings
Put your feet up and relax. Certainly the most enjoyable of the Chinese New Year superstitions, sweeping and cleaning is strictly forbidden. The Chinese believe cleaning means you'll sweep all of your good luck out the front door.
2. Time to Come Clean
Before you can enjoy number two, you need to give the house a full spring clean, before putting cleaning tools in the cupboard on New Year's Eve.
3. Read Between the Lines
Be sure to stock up on reading materials before Chinese New Year, as Hong Kong's bookshops will be padlocked tight. In Cantonese, book is a homonym for 'lose'.
4. Choppy Waters
Make sure you avoid rough seas in the new year by not buying shoes over the holiday period. In Cantonese, shoes are a homonym for 'rough'.
5. Balance the Books
If you're in debt, it's time to dip into your pockets and pay people off. The Chinese believe that if you start the new year in the red, you'll finish it the same way.
6. Ghostly Conversations
Caught round a campfire over the holiday period? No ghost stories. Tales of death, dying and ghosts is considered supremely inauspicious, especially during Chinese New Year.
7. Lady in Red
Chinese New Year is packed with colors, and while all the colors of the rainbow bring good luck, it's the color red that is considered the ultimate luck bringer.
8. Sweet Year
We have a sweet touch at the best of times, but Chinese New Year offers the perfect chance to raid the sweet shop, as eating candies is said to deliver a sweeter year.
9. Feel the Breeze
Welcome in the New Year with a blast of fresh air, opening your windows is said to let in good luck.
10. Get to the Point
Sharp objects are said to be harbingers of bad luck, as their sharp points cut out your good luck, pack them away. You should also avoid the hairdressers or you'll have your good luck chopped off.
Pretty fun stuff huh!;)

Restaurant Week NYC 2012 Winter - One if by Land, Two if by Sea
Absolutely beautiful space, with an added bonus of a grand piano in the "living room" next to the fireplace. I have to say it was one of the most stunning, romantic restaurants I'd ever been to.
Brendan's dinner: Chestnut Tagliatelle, Hake, Dulce de Leche Fondant Cake
My dinner: Chest nut Tagliatelle, Braised Short Rib, Maple Ice Cream Sundae
We shared a Lobster Bisque from the regular menu, souvignon blanc, and a yogurt soup for palette cleansing. Overall absolutely excellent service and high qualify food.

Cafe WhA!!!!
Saturday night we finally checked out Cafe Wha, An intimate little undergroun spot in the Greenwich Village-. Cafe Wha is a legendary rock club and once the home to various musicians and comedians. Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, The Velvet Underground, Cat Mother & the All Night Newsboys, Kool and the Gang, Peter, Paul & Mary, Woody Allen, Lenny Bruce, Joan Rivers, Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, and many others all began their careers at the Wha?, recording tracks and playing for live audiences. We had to check it out!!! The night was amazing and we had one of the best times in NyC. House band was hands down the best I've seen; from vocals to energy to sound quality. They had all of us up an dancing(even Brendan!)
We also met a female doctor who sat next to us and had about 6 shots of tequila in the span of an hour. She then offered to write my friend a note so she can miss work the next day.
"Please excuse miss Jessica from work as she had an unplanned medical procedure performed Saturday evening".....NICE
In other interesting news, and Unfortunately for my single girl friends who came out, Brendan was the only one at our table who got hit on...by a dude!!! Heeeeeeeeeeee!!! I suppose that is the ultimate compliment;) The guy literally stared at Brendan all night and followed him to the restroom BAH!!!AHA! Un-Surprisingly this wasn't the first time this happened so he handled it well. What a great night!
